Our Story

VK Press was founded on October 3, 2016 in Indianapolis, Indiana by Shavonne Holton. The imprint was established to honor the unfulfilled publishing dreams of her maternal grandmother as well as the collaborative spirit of her mother. The heartbeat of VKP can be attributed to an esteemed poet who once said:

There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you.
— Dr. Maya Angelou

For literary artists who want to leverage their creativity and leave their mark, VK Press is a book publisher that provides more creative freedom and guidance than traditional publishing houses.

Our books and authors have been recognized by the Arts Council of Indianapolis, Indiana Arts Commission, Indianapolis Public Library as well as other honors beyond the midwest.

We are committed to helping writers share their stories with editorial excellence while widening the stage for artistic design that shifts culture.
