Strength to hide hurt. Humor to hide shame.  These are two of the ways I guarded my heart and kept the world from seeing the most authentic version of me. It was as if I was wearing a mask to protect me, but I know I am not alone in this.

We all wear masks. Some choose to wear their masks only in certain situations and remove it in others. Whereas some of us feel we can never remove our masks out of fear that our true selves would not be accepted. Either way, we cannot have meaningful relationships with others if we do not show up in the most authentic way.

For this reason, VKP will be hosting Wine & unMASKing the Strong Black Woman based on a theme from Dating Daddy: Realizing God as Father through Daddy Issues and Bad Romance. During this afternoon of art entertainment, guests will be led through a wine tasting by Sip in Share Wine and a mask painting by Sylvia "Ess" Rivers. Limited tickets are available on our website here.
