Tapped Out

“I’m tired. Effie I’m tired!”  Dreamgirls came on television not too long ago, and like a true fan I sat and watch the entire movie while singing each song. Yep, I’m that kinda girl. I’ve see the movie countless times (because I own the DVD) but when Lorrel sang to Effie about how tired she was, I felt every single note. That line hit me like a ton of bricks! I am T I R E D.

You don’t realize how exhausting everyday life and relationships can be until you’re tapped out. We often give and pour into others without stopping to replenish ourselves. I saw a meme on social media that said, “you can’t pour from an empty cup.” As a wife, friend, sister and mother, I’ve noticed that I’ve been putting the needs of others first. It took me a while to learn that self-care is not being selfish but loving yourself enough to know when to put yourself first.

I am so thankful for my women’s group. We recently had a weekend getaway and it was exactly what I needed. The town we visited was peaceful and relaxing. We shopped, ate, laughed, cried, prayed, affirmed one another and poured into each other. It was a weekend of rejuvenation and for once I didn’t feel tapped out.

Self-care is appropriate and necessary. Take the time to replenish so you can continue to be great.
