Celebrating (Other) Mothers
As Mother Day approaches, many of us reflect on our relationship with our biological moms. We think about the lessons we've learned from them. We consider the sacrifices they made for us and how they inspire us to become the best version of ourselves. With each passing year, I grow a greater gratefulness for my mother, but it does not stop there.
I also grow a greater appreciation for the "other" mothers that had a hand in raising me. These are women who did not give birth to me, yet they either took me under their wings as their own. They exemplified the possibilities for my life that was once unfamiliar to me. They filled in the gap when my mother faced challenges as a single mother.
To my own mother, I love you! To my aunts, grandmothers, favorite teachers, mentors, friend's mothers, and the other women who helped to raise this responsible, caring, and classy woman, thank you and...
Happy (Other) Mother’s Day!
