FRIEND TOUR: Arizona
Bold. Courageous. Daring! These are a few of the words I would use to describe the first stop on my Friend Tour. But it was not I who was bold. It was the friend I was going to visit who was. This friend took a leap of faith to move out of state. Arizona to be exact. She did not have any ties in her new city. No family. No friends. Just a job opportunity that would take her from our hometown in the Midwest to the dryness of the Mountain West.
For that reason, I decided to plan a surprise visit for her birthday in December. I did not know what we would do once I arrived, but my goal was to create experiences in Arizona that she had yet to tap into. In the three days of my visit, I wanted her to feel my appreciation for our friendship and the priceless advice she shared with me during a learning curve in my own life.
Once I booked the flight, our mutual friend followed suit and booked a flight as well. The three of us laughed, conversed, danced, and dined! We played in open spaces in Scottsdale in high heels and little dresses. Though there were a few hiccups, I felt that the trip was much needed. We needed to see our friend no matter how short our stay. And she needed to know she was loved by women who would not let distance disconnect a meaningful connection.
