VKP: Who is your favorite author or writing influence?  Why?

Nikki: I can’t pinpoint a favorite author, I appreciate variety.  I like Toni Morrison for her eloquence but I also like Sista Souljah for her grit.

VKP: What is your favorite book or piece of literature?

Nikki: I like the God Don’t Like Ugly series by Mary Monroe.  I find myself fond of contemporary African American Lit.

VKP: What was the most agonizing book you were required to read?

Nikki: I must say For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide/When the Rainbow is Enuf was certainly a challenge for me.  It was hard for me to erase the images of the woman and their struggle from my mind.

VKP: Pencil or pen?

Nikki: Pen

VKP: If you could create from anywhere in the world, where would it be?

Nikki: Honestly, if I could create from anywhere in the world I would choose New Orleans.  As much as I would love being surrounded by white sand and blue waters, the culture of New Orleans is refreshing and inspiring.
